When you do a simple Google search of Clomid, the definition is: "a non-steroidal fertility medicine. It causes the pituitary gland to release hormones needed to stimulate ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). Clomid is used to cause ovulation in women with certain medical conditions (such as polycystic ovary syndrome) that prevent naturally occurring ovulation."
So basically Clomid is a medication that makes your body ovulate. For someone like me, with PCOS, my body does not ovulate every month (almost every single month my body wouldn't ovulate). After I was diagnosed with PCOS and I told my doctor I was not ovulating, Clomid was prescribed. I started with 50mg. I took a pill once a day for 5 days. My doctor's office gave me very detailed instruction on how to take it so I'm sure your's will too. Anyway, I printed a paper calendar of the month I was going to start Clomid. I wrote down when I started my period, every single day that I took Clomid, the days my husband and I had sex, and when I began ovulating (I tested every morning and night a few days after I finished my first round). My doctor predicted the day I would ovulate and he was correct! We had sex as much as we could that day and the next. Leading up to that day, we had sex every other day. It truly is all about timing, with Clomid. A friend of mine had sex every single day leading up to ovulation; so it really depends on your preference and what your doctor instructs you to do. Once you've passed your ovulation day, the waiting game begins. I tried my best to wait a full 14 DPO but couldn't wait. I tested at 10 dpo. It was a super light positive line but everyday I tested and eventually at 14 dpo it was a very clear Positive! When taking Clomid, it's definitely not the "I missed my period maybe I'm pregnant, let me test!". It's all very scheduled but regardless of how you conceive, the end result is always the same....YOU'RE PREGNANT!!
With Clomid, you can only do 3 rounds in a row because of the high risk of Ovarian Cancer it can have (your doctor will go over that with you). They say that Clomid working after the first round isn't very likely. Doing another round, your doctor might up your dosage to 100mg once a day for 5 days. Not too sure how accurate it is but I have heard that the more Clomid that is in your system, aka taking it more than one round, will increase your chances.
I never thought when embarking on my TTC journey I would have to take a fertility medication, to get pregnant, but lets be honest, you has anything we ever planned on doing not come with challenges and a few speed bumps in the road. I am so thankful that it worked on the first round and worked in general. Hope this gives a little insight of what it's like getting pregnant on Clomid!
